Who are we?

Worried youthThe Shopfront Youth Legal Centre is a free legal service for homeless and disadvantaged young people aged 25 and under. The Shopfront is a joint project of Mission Australia's Sydney City Mission, the Salvation Army and the law firm Freehills. We are based in inner-city Sydney (356 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst) but can help people who live outside this area.

What do we do?

New to Shopfront

New phone number: our telephone number has changed to (02) 9322 4808. The old phone number will still work for the time being. All other contact details remain the same.

Referring clients to the Shopfront: we have put together a guide to help youth workers make more effective referrals. Following the guidelines will help ensure that the client receives the best possible service. Click here for more details.

Fines kit: we have put together a kit for youth workers, to better enable you to help young people deal with their unpaid fines. It includes a step-by-step guide to the fines system, tips for dealing with the SDRO, sample letters and forms. This is now available on this website, click here. To order a hardcopy kit please email us at shopfront@freehills.com.

Traffic fact sheets: young people face heavy fines, licence suspension and disqualification if they break traffic laws. The law can be confusing and young people often get themselves into big trouble without intending to! We now have a set of traffic fact sheets to help young drivers understand the traffic laws in NSW. From 1 July 2007, there are some important new rules for learner and P1 drivers. Click here to access all the new information.

Special police powers during APEC conference: Police will have special powers in the centre of Sydney during the APEC conference in August/September 2007. Click here for more information.
